What is BWSTT?
Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training (BWSTT) is an evidenced-based physical therapy intervention that has demonstrated superior outcomes in the acute, sub-acute and chronic stages of stroke as well as many other neurological diagnoses.
A harness attached to an unweighting device is used to control body weight, posture and balance, in a safe, fall-free environment. Coupled with the stimulus of a motorized treadmill and facilitated by a trained therapist, the patient experiences many repetitions of well-formed, symmetrical gait patterns.
BWSTT provides the REPETITION, INTENSITY AND TASK SPECIFICITY required to induce neuronal re-organization (plasticity) at the cortical level.
