Emily H.

PT, DPT

Location: Bay State Physical Therapy – South Boston, MA

Emily Hughes, PT, DPT, completed her Doctorate of Physical Therapy at Jefferson College of Rehabilitation Sciences in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her passion for physical therapy began during her four years competing on Loyola University Maryland’s Division I tennis team, where she experienced firsthand the impact of injury and recovery. Throughout her doctoral training, Emily gained diverse clinical experience across the lifespan – from outpatient orthopedics in Gardnerville, NV, and Marlton, NJ, to home health in Fairfax, VA. Early in her education, she developed a deep interest in pelvic health physical therapy, which was strengthened through an externship at a private pelvic floor clinic in Baltimore, MD. There, she specialized in treating prenatal and postpartum care, urinary incontinence, and pelvic organ prolapse, among other conditions. She has continued to expand her expertise through advanced coursework with the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute.

Emily is passionate about promoting awareness of women’s and pelvic health services within both the medical and general community through educational presentations and fundraisers. Her treatment approach blends holistic, functional movement principles with manual therapy and dry needling techniques to create individualized, integrative care plans. Known for her empathetic and compassionate nature, Emily builds meaningful relationships with her clients and empowers them to reconnect with their bodies through movement and education. When she’s not in the clinic, Emily can be found teaching yoga, exploring New England’s food and culture scene, or spending time outdoors – hiking, skiing, and traveling with her partner, family, and friends.
