Location: Bay State Physical Therapy – Westwood, MA
Graduate: Northeastern University
Brenda is a 1987 graduate of Northeastern University with over 30 years of experience in orthopedic and sports medicine. Early in her career, she worked on co-op or as an intern at many of the Boston hospitals, including New England Baptist, Brigham and Women’s, and New England Deaconess. Her first job at Brigham and Women’s was in the medical/surgical section where she was the primary therapist for the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit. While there, she developed a program to meet newly diagnosed cancer patients and instruct them on exercise limitations prior to transplant.
After several years, Brenda returned to her first love of outpatient orthopedic and sports medicine and worked in the Metrowest area, including as part owner of Charles River Sports Therapy of Natick. As Program Manager of Sports Medicine at MetroWest Medical Center, she led community outreach to 6 towns, providing Athletic Trainers to local public high schools. Brenda has also been an assistant professor at Northeastern University in the Physical Therapy Department.
Brenda is vestibular certified (to treat vertigo), certified in ergonomics and also certified in the treatment of golfers through the Back to Golf program. Brenda has volunteered for the Boston Marathon Medical Team for over 15 years, and is also fluent in German, having worked at the Rehabilitationsklinik in Heidelberg Germany.
Brenda grew up locally in Needham and has been a competitive ballroom dancer for over 8 years. She has two adult daughters and her husband Kern is Head Athletic Trainer at St. Sebastian’s School. Together they have been able to travel to many countries in Europe, Africa and South America, and always are looking forward to their next adventure.
